Becoming a K12 Teacher in Texas

What is the first step to take if you were a K12 teacher in your home country and are interested in getting certified in Texas?

• Create your TEA Login (TEAL) account

• Register for university classes in education.

• Go talk to someone at a school.

What do you need to be eligible for a Review of Credentials from the Texas Education Agency?

• You need to have completed a teacher practice program in your home country.

• You need to have a bachelor's degree from a U.S. university or college OR an evaluation that you have an equivalent degree from your own country

• You need to be a licensed K12 teacher in your home country

• All of the above.

How do you submit your foreign credential evaluation?

• You must mail your original evaluation to the Texas Education Agency.

• Your servicer or institution must send it via email to [e-mail].

• Only faxes of the evaluation are accepted by TEA.

What does your foreign credential evaluation NOT include?

• certificate or credential issued by another country, with dates, certification areas, and grade levels

• verification of your educational coursework and teaching practice, or practicum.

• a cover letter, resume, and job application to the school district where you want to teaccher

• The evaluation must a course-by-course verification that you hold a degree comparable to a U.S. bachelor’s degree or higher
