What does the Ocean Dumping Ban Act of 1988 state?

• banned ocean dumping of municipal sewage sludge and industrial waste

• required the Secretary of Energy to issue guidelines for selection of sites for construction of two permanent, underground nuclear waste repositories.

• Seeks to prevent the creation of toxic waste dumps by setting standards for the management of hazardous waste. Like CERCLA, this law also includes some provisions for cleanup of existing contaminated sites.
