Definition of Communism

• A system of government where representatives are elected by the people and government does not have a say in what people believe

• A system that is based on common ownership on things such as production. Based on government having full control. Is not based on Social class, money, or states

• Living freely, with little to no government control. Living with no taxes or laws to live by

What is Containment and The Domino Effect

• Keeping something harmful within limits and protected. The effect of neighboring countries surrounding 1 communist countries fall into communism

• Controlling specifically a group or population. The creation of a famous family home game.

• Wanting more power to the government, causing a widespread of disaster, known as the Domino Effect.

Who was Joseph McCarthy?

• The former governor of Wisconsin from he late 1940's to the late 1950's

• Famous actor who played an important role in the 50's

• American president who caused the second world war

• American politician who served as a Republican U.S. Senator for the state of Wisconsin from 1947 to 1957 when he died. Also created the term of McCarthyism which comes from his anti-communist beliefs.

What speech did McCarthy make and how did it kick off the red scare?

• Stated that there were spies on American soil and also burned all communist books in all libraries.

• He stated to everyone that communism should be spread and would help keep control over our government

• Spoke about how new laws could still "save" the united states

• Told everyone that it was going to rain money if we maintain a dictatorship

• Part of a Russian Embessy

• I poorly developed team of american investigators

• Created to uncover and investigate communist activities

• An advanced team of German Journalist that helped stop communism

Who were the Hollywood Ten, and what happened to them?

• 10 famous actors that were all hanged for treason

• 10 famous people that gave speeches against communism

• The first 10 people to win the lottery

• Consisted of 10 screenwriters and directors that were given jail time for not associating with public hearings dealing with communism

When such people as Larry Parker and Roy Huggins "named names," what happened to the people they named? If you were "named" and refused to talk, what happened?

• McCarthy claimed he new 13 Writers, actors and directors and said were involved in activities.Garfield and Dalton Trumbo,who had volunteered to act as observers
