The Alchemist arrives

• dressed in white riding on a bejeweled camel.

• dressed as a Spanish bull-fighter.

• dressed in black astride a huge white horse.

• with a large group of armed attendants.

The real alchemist says that Santiago is an alchemist to

• save himself.

• confuse the captors.

• make Santiago test his powers.

• give Santiago confidence.

In the desert, Santiago turns himself into

• gold.

Santiago sees two hawks fighting and understands this as an omen that
