What is Volume?

• Takes the shape of its container-molecules are spread out (example: Air)

• Has a definite shape and volume

What is the Conservation of Matter?

• Matter can be created and destroyed.

• Matter cannot be created or destroyed, only changed in form.

• Matter can be transformed into energy but not destroyed.

• Matter is only found in solid form.

What is a solid?

• Has a definite shape and volume, molecules are very close together.

• Has no definite shape but has a definite volume.

• Has a definite shape but no definite volume.

• Molecules are far apart and move freely.

What is Density?

• A measure of the mass of an object compared to its volume (more mass per volume=more dense)

• The amount of space an object occupies

• The weight of an object in a vacuum

• The temperature at which a substance changes state

What is displacement?

• When you put something in water, the water level goes up because the object is taking up space and pushing the water out of the way. Calculate: final volume minus the initial volume.
