What is Prevent?

• Part of the UK's counter terrorism strategy, CONTEST. Prevent is aimed at early intervention.

• A way of reporting terrorists to the police.

• A way of stopping the spread of fundamental British values.

What should you do if you have concerns that a student may be becoming radicalised?

• Report it as a safeguarding concern.

• Call 999 immediately.

• Accuse them of being a terrorist.

How does the Prevent agenda define an 'ideology'?

• A set of beliefs, particularly political beliefs, on which people base their actions

• Religious beliefs that form the basis of organised religions in the UK.

• A set of beliefs that go against the status quo, encouraging change.

What is extremism?

• An outlook which opposes fundamental British values.

• Joining a group that takes direct protest action.

• The process of an individual adopting extreme beliefs.

Prevent has three major duties. Which one is missing from this list: to tackle the ideological sources of terrorism, to intervene early to support individuals susceptible to radicalisation, and...

• To ensure that those involved in terrorism are suitably prosecuted.

• To enable those that have already engaged in extremism to disengage and rehabilitate.

• To enable those who are working with children to monitor the impact of radicalisation.
