Third Conditional

We use 3rd Conditional to talk about ...

• hypotetical or imaginary situations in the past.

• hypotetical or imaginary situations in the present.

• hypotetical or imaginary situations in the future.

• unreal future

The grammar structure for 3rd conditional is:

• Subj + past perfect - IF + subj + would have + verb in PP

• Subj + verb in PS - IF + subj + would + verb in SF

• Subj+has+verb in PP-IF + subj + would + has + verb in PP

In the IF Clause we use:

• IF + subj + had + verb in PP

• IF + subj + verb in Simple Form

• IF + verb in future+ subj

In the Result Clause we use:

• Subj + would have + verb in PP

• Subj + would + verb in SF

• Subj + will + verb in simple form

If you __________ (not/be) late, we __________ (not/miss) the bus.

• hadn´t been - wouldn´t have missed
