Understanding Heart Structure

To circulate oxygen in the lungs.

To filter waste from the blood.

To pump blood throughout the body.

To digest food in the stomach.

Right atrium, Right atrium, Left ventricle, Left ventricle

Upper chamber, Lower chamber, Left chamber, Right chamber

Aorta, Pulmonary artery, Left atrium, Right ventricle

Right atrium, Right ventricle, Left atrium, Left ventricle

Aortic valve

Interatrial septum

Coronary sinus

Pulmonary vein

The right ventricle receives oxygenated blood from the lungs.

The right ventricle pumps oxygenated blood to the body.

The right ventricle stores blood before it enters the left ventricle.

The right ventricle pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs.

To regulate blood pressure in the arteries.

To allow blood flow from the atria to the ventricles.

To prevent backflow of blood from the ventricles to the atria.

To facilitate oxygen exchange in the lungs.

body -> left atrium -> left ventricle -> lungs -> right atrium -> right ventricle -> body

body -> left ventricle -> lungs -> right atrium -> right ventricle -> body

body -> right ventricle -> right atrium -> left atrium -> lungs -> left ventricle -> body

The pathway of blood flow through the heart is: body -> right atrium -> right ventricle -> lungs -> left atrium -> left ventricle -> body.

The septum prevents the mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood in the heart.

The septum is responsible for pumping blood out of the heart.

The septum allows blood to flow freely between the chambers.

The septum regulates heart rate and rhythm.
