Between 2014 and 2016, a country took strong action to stop the spread of measles, a highly contagious disease that mostly affects children. Measles can cause fever, cough, rashes, and even serious health problems in some cases. To protect people, the government started a large vaccination campaign.

Vaccines are special medicines that help the body fight off viruses. By giving vaccines to many people, especially children, the country reduced the number of people getting sick from measles. Data showed a big drop in measles cases during these years.

Health experts believed that this success came from more children being vaccinated on time. However, in later years, the number of measles cases started to rise again, showing that keeping up with vaccinations is very important.

What is one reason measles cases decreased in a country?

More sugary foods

Better hospitals

Successful vaccinations

Fewer children
