Adams played a significant role in the Continental Congresses and helped draft the Declaration of Independence. He was instrumental in shaping Massachusetts' state government and served on numerous committees. Adams became the first vice president under George Washington and later the second president of the United States. He died on July 4, 1826, the same day as Thomas Jefferson, marking the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
