The Great Fire of London began on September 2, 1666, in Pudding Lane. It raged for four days, destroying two-thirds of the city, including over 13,000 houses, 430 streets, and 89 churches. Despite the devastation, only six deaths were recorded. The fire's details were documented by Samuel Peeps and John Evelyn. To prevent future disasters, King Charles II mandated that new buildings be made of stone and brick. Christopher Wren played a key role in rebuilding, designing St. Paul's Cathedral and a monument to the fire.
