Dédalo and his son Ícaro are imprisoned by King Minos after building the labyrinth. Despite their comfortable life, they long to return to Athens. Dédalo devises a plan to escape by crafting wings from feathers and wax. He warns Ícaro not to fly too high or too low. However, Ícaro, enthralled by the experience, flies too close to the sun, causing the wax to melt and him to fall into the sea. Dédalo mourns his son's loss and names the sea and nearby island in his memory.
