On December 16, 1910, the first jet plane was tested near Paris by its inventor, Henri Coandă. During the test, the plane went out of control, caught fire, and was completely destroyed. The pilot survived with minor injuries and a fractured forearm. This incident led to a series of studies that established the principles still used in modern jet engine production.
