Demeter, the goddess of harvest, faces a challenge when Loki curses her magical dice, causing their dots to fall off. To restore balance, she must craft new dice that replicate the sum distribution of standard dice. Despite one die being limited to four dots per side, Demeter uses a strategic approach to create Sicherman dice, which maintain the same sum frequencies as regular dice. This solution, discovered by George Sicherman in 1978, is the only alternative configuration for two six-sided dice with identical sum distributions.
