King Midas, a ruler in Greek mythology, was known for his greed and foolishness. He was granted the power to turn everything he touched into gold, which led to disastrous consequences, including turning his daughter into a statue. After pleading with the gods, he was relieved of this power. Later, he insulted Apollo and was given the ears of an ass. His barber, unable to keep the secret, whispered it into the ground, and the reeds spread the tale. Midas's story is a cautionary tale about greed and hubris.
