On October 29, 1956, Israel attacked Egypt's eastern border, supported by French and British forces, in what became known as the Tripartite Aggression. The aggression was driven by multiple factors, including Egypt's support for Algeria's independence from French colonialism and Israel's desire to expand its territory. The primary catalyst, however, was Egypt's nationalization of the Suez Canal. The aggression faced significant international opposition from the Soviet Union, the United States, and the United Nations. Despite being in a rebuilding phase, the Egyptian army, with the help of popular resistance, stood firm against the aggression, leading to a significant setback for the three attacking nations.
