After taking office in 1909, President Taft opposed many of Roosevelt's policies. In 1912, Roosevelt challenged Taft for the Republican nomination but lost. He then joined the Progressive Party, founded by Robert La Follette, and campaigned on the Bull Moose ticket. Woodrow Wilson was elected as the 28th president, running a campaign focused on domestic reform.
