A Nigerian family was rescued from an overcrowded rubber boat in the Mediterranean. Shortly after, a baby named Newman Otas was born on the rescue ship Aquarius, managed by Médicos Sin Fronteras. The birth was normal, but the mother had endured a difficult journey with her two other children. The family, including parents Otas and Faith, and siblings Victor and Rolres, were attempting to cross from Libya. The mother was terrified of going into labor during the rescue, having experienced contractions for three days.
