VOICED : Colombia y Ecuador fortalecen combate a trafico de personas

Colombia and Ecuador have agreed to strengthen their fight against human trafficking by signing a deportation protocol. This agreement comes after Panama closed its borders to Cubans traveling by land to the U.S. from Ecuador. Costa Rica and Nicaragua have also closed their borders. Quito believes the migration issues should be addressed with the U.S., which is seen as encouraging the movement. Colombia reports that Cubans make up about 70% of illegal migration in its territory. Ecuador's visa requirement for Cubans helps reduce this flow. For nearly a decade, Cubans have been flying to Ecuador and traveling by land through Colombia, Central America, and Mexico to reach the U.S.
