In the 1950s, Fidel Castro gathered 80 followers in Mexico, known as the barbudos, to start the Cuban Revolution. Carlos Alvarado, a Mexican army officer, recalls the appearance of the yacht Granma, owned by young Cuban students. After befriending them, Alvarado and his friend explored the yacht. The Granma disappeared on a rainy night in November 1956, with only 16 of the 80 revolutionaries surviving the confrontation with Batista's army.
