The government of Nicolás Maduro and the opposition coalition, Mesa de Unidad Democrática, have agreed to engage in dialogue to end two months of protests that have resulted in nearly 40 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The dialogue will be accompanied by representatives from UNASUR and the Vatican. Previously, the opposition had refused to engage due to perceived inequalities. However, some radical factions, like the Voluntad Popular party, reject the dialogue, demanding the release of their leader, Leopoldo López, who was imprisoned in February for allegedly inciting violence.
