In 1799, Napoleon Bonaparte seized power in France through a bloodless coup. Prior to this, France was embroiled in wars with several European powers, leading to public discontent with the Directory government. Napoleon, along with Emmanuel Joseph Sieyès and other conspirators, plotted to overthrow the Directory. The coup was executed by deceiving the legislative bodies and dissolving the existing government structure. Napoleon emerged as the First Consul, effectively becoming the dictator of France, all without any bloodshed.
