In 1732, General James Oglethorpe sailed from England to establish the colony of Georgia. He settled at Yamacraw Bluff with the help of John and Mary Musgrove and negotiated with the Yamacraw Indians, led by Tomochichi, to secure land. Oglethorpe and Tomochichi signed a treaty, and Tomochichi later visited England to advocate for his people. He pushed for education and fair trade, leading to the establishment of schools for Native Americans. Tomochichi died in 1739, leaving a legacy of peace and cooperation.
