William Henry Harrison was a war hero and the ninth U.S. president. He was the oldest president at inauguration until Reagan and the first to die in office, serving only 31 days. His death led to a Constitutional crisis about presidential succession, resolved by the 25th Amendment. Harrison was known for his military leadership in the Battle of Tippecanoe and the War of 1812. He had a political career in the House and Senate and was a Whig Party candidate. He lost the 1836 election but won in 1840 with John Tyler as his running mate. His presidency set a precedent for vice-presidential succession.
