After Alexander the Great's death, his empire was divided. By the late 3rd century BC, various kingdoms and leagues emerged. Rome, having expanded its power, clashed with Macedon in a series of wars. The First Macedonian War ended in a stalemate, but Rome's influence grew. The Second Macedonian War saw Rome defeating Philip V, leading to Macedon's diminished power. Perseus attempted to restore Macedonian strength, but the Third Macedonian War resulted in Roman victory and the division of Macedon into Roman provinces. By 148 BC, Macedonia was fully annexed, solidifying Rome's dominance in the region.
