The Dust Bowl began in 1930, severely affecting the central United States, especially Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas. Over 2.5 million people left these states due to over farming, drought, and erosion. Many migrated to California, seeking new opportunities. The Dust Bowl caused significant hardship, leaving 500,000 homeless and resulting in 7,000 deaths. President Roosevelt introduced soil conservation programs to combat the crisis, which ended in 1939 with the return of rain.
