In 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, Picasso was commissioned to create a mural for the World's Fair in Paris. Inspired by the bombing of Guernica, he shifted his focus to depict the horrors of war. The mural, completed in 35 days, is filled with symbolic elements like a bull, horse, and light bulb, each open to interpretation. Despite its chaotic composition, the mural powerfully denounces war and violence. Picasso refused to return the mural to Spain until democracy was restored, and it finally arrived in Spain in 1981, after Franco's death.
