Giant isopods are large deep-sea crustaceans found in cold, deep waters. They exhibit deep-sea gigantism, likely due to cold temperatures and long lifespans. These creatures have large eyes, 14 legs, and pleopods for swimming and respiration. As scavengers, they feed on dead animals and can survive long periods without food. They can roll into a ball for protection. Female isopods lay eggs in a pouch, and the young emerge as miniature adults. Giant isopods are sometimes caught in nets and are considered a delicacy in parts of Asia.
