Sundiata Keita, born around 1217 in Niani, founded the Mali Empire. Despite early challenges due to physical disabilities, he rose to power after defeating his half-brother Dankaran Toumani in 1235. Sundiata expanded the empire, promoted trade, and established a prosperous and stable governance system. His reign lasted until 1255, leaving a legacy as a wise ruler and warrior. His story inspired the epic poem 'Epic of Sundiata', a significant work in African literature.
