Long Island, located in the northeastern United States, is the largest island in the contiguous U.S. It spans approximately 1,400 square miles and is divided into four counties: Queens, Kings, Nassau, and Suffolk. While Queens and Kings are part of New York City, Nassau and Suffolk are suburban and rural. Long Island is densely populated, with around 8 million residents, making it the most populated island in the U.S. and the third most populous in the Americas. The island's geography includes separation from Connecticut and Rhode Island by the Long Island Sound and from Manhattan by the East River.
