During World War I, Australian women did not achieve military and economic equality with men. Unlike in Germany and Britain, Australia did not require women to replace men in the workforce. Instead, women engaged in volunteer work and traditional female roles. The Red Cross and the Australian Comforts Fund were key organizations for women's volunteer efforts. Women also played a role in recruitment and propaganda, using emotional appeals to encourage enlistment. Despite increased workforce participation during the war, women were largely restricted to traditional roles and faced challenges in expanding their employment opportunities post-war.
