The operation, now in its seventh day, aims to suppress the People's Protection Units, which Turkey labels as terrorists but are key US allies against ISIS. This has strained Turkey-US relations, with President Trump urging Erdogan to limit military actions. Analysts warn of potential direct conflict between Turkish and US forces. Since Saturday, over 110 combatants and 38 civilians have died, mostly due to Turkish airstrikes. Three Turkish soldiers have also been killed. The Syrian war has resulted in over 340,000 deaths since 2011.
