Rio de Janeiro has expanded its international airport, Galeao, by adding a new wing to accommodate the influx of athletes and tourists for the upcoming Olympic Games. The expansion, which cost $560 million and employed 7,000 people, nearly doubles the airport's capacity. It includes 26 new boarding gates and renovations to existing infrastructure. The project aims to leave a lasting legacy for the city, enhancing its status as a major gateway to Brazil. During the Olympics, the airport is expected to handle around 1.5 million passengers.
