The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will introduce five new sports: baseball/softball, climbing, surfing, karate, and skateboarding. Baseball returns after being absent since 2012, while the other four sports make their Olympic debut. The inclusion aims to blend popular local sports with those appealing to youth, particularly focusing on skateboarding to engage young audiences. With these additions, Tokyo 2020 will feature 33 sports, expanding from the 28 in Rio 2016.
