Knowing the Flow

Edie Witter, a bioluminescent expert, shifted focus to water quality monitoring, inspired by ocean policy reports. She founded the Ocean Research and Conservation Association (ORCA) to develop solutions for ocean conservation. One of ORCA's projects was Kilroy, a water quality monitoring device designed by Eric Fosterson. Kilroy is user-friendly and cost-effective, with sensors to measure bioluminescence. ORCA faced funding challenges, losing state and federal support, relying on private foundations. Strategic placement of Kilroys was crucial, leading to pollution mapping using sediment samples to visualize pollution levels.
