The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, publicly received the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to encourage hesitant seniors. Despite this, some municipalities, including indigenous communities, have rejected the vaccine after public discussions. The government encourages those who missed the first dose to get vaccinated during the second dose rollout. Since the campaign began on December 24, Mexico has administered over 14.5 million doses. With a population of 126 million, Mexico is the third hardest-hit country globally, reporting over 212,000 deaths.
