In 2019, China recorded its lowest birth rate since the founding of the Communist Party in 1949, marking the third consecutive year of decline. This demographic trend adds pressure to the slowing economy, already affected by an aging population and a shrinking labor force. Despite relaxing the one-child policy in 2016, birth rates have not increased, partly due to rising living costs. China's economy grew by 6.1% last year, the slowest since 1990, hindered by a trade war with the U.S. and reduced domestic demand.
