During the Baroque period, painting was a lucrative business, but there was no affordable blue pigment. Henry Bisbal, a Berlin-based color manufacturer, accidentally discovered Prussian Blue while attempting to create a red dye. His process involved potash, iron sulfate, and animal blood oil, leading to the creation of Ferric ferrocyanide. The addition of hydrochloric acid turned the solution blue, resulting in the first synthetic pigment. Prussian Blue became widely used in the 18th century, influencing artists like Monet, Van Gogh, and Picasso.
