VOICED : Familiares de victimas celebran condena por Plan Condor

In Uruguay and Argentina, there was a celebration of the convictions of former Argentine dictator Reynaldo Viñone and retired Uruguayan colonel Manuel Cordero. The Argentine tribunal sentenced 15 out of 18 accused for illicit association, with penalties up to 25 years, recognizing Plan Cóndor as a supranational illicit association. This verdict is significant for all countries involved in Plan Cóndor. In Montevideo, families expressed mixed feelings, happy for Argentine justice but saddened by ongoing impunity in Uruguay. This trial is the first in Latin America to acknowledge Plan Cóndor as a criminal and institutionalized system.
