146 Mountain Meadows Massacre - One Minute History

The Baker Fancher party, composed of families from Arkansas, enters the Utah Territory and camps at Mountain Meadows. Provoked by Brigham Young's rhetoric, Mormon militiamen attack the immigrants while disguised as Native Americans. After a five-day siege, militia officer John Lee negotiates a truce, promising safe passage in exchange for livestock and supplies. The immigrants are disarmed and led away from their defensible position, where 120 members are murdered, leaving only 17 young children as survivors. Twenty years later, John Lee is executed for his role in the massacre.
