Bionic Limbs - Science of Innovation

In the Robotics and Human Engineering Lab at UC Berkeley, Dr. Homayoon Kazerooni develops robotic exoskeletons to help people with paralysis walk again. Inspired by humanoid robots, Kaz's work in bionics mimics human movement using lightweight motors and computers. Volunteer Steven Sanchez, paralyzed from a BMX accident, uses the exoskeleton to regain mobility. The lab also explores other mobility innovations and emphasizes the importance of patents for sharing and protecting ideas.
