In 2016, a proposal was unveiled to construct London's first wooden skyscraper, made of timber and featuring midrise terraces. Planned for central London near the Barbican estate, the 300-meter tall building could accommodate up to 1,000 residential homes within a 1,000,000 square feet area. The structure aims to comply with fire regulations applicable to concrete and steel buildings. If successful, it would become London's second tallest building after The Shard.
