Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, a renowned Mexican archaeologist, was awarded the Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences in Spain. At 81, he was recognized for his intellectual rigor in reconstructing Mexican and Mesoamerican civilizations, free from myths. Known for discovering the Templo Mayor in the 1970s, he also led significant research in Tula and Teotihuacán. The award jury praised his work as exemplary in scientific archaeology and cultural dialogue. Matos Moctezuma has received numerous accolades, including honorary doctorates from the University of Colorado and Harvard, and has been a professor at the National School of Anthropology and History for over three decades.
