Mass Suicide at Igbo Landing

The Ebo Landing story, set in Dunbar Creek, Georgia, recounts a revolt by Nigerian slaves who were purchased and shipped to be resold. During the voyage, 75 slaves killed their captors, showcasing their fierce independence and resistance to slavery. Although the story's authenticity was questioned, a 1980 research confirmed its validity. The site is now a holy place for the Saint Simons African American community. The Ebo Landing story is part of the Coastal Georgia School curriculum, symbolizing the struggle for freedom.
