Scientists have created malaria-resistant mosquitoes

Malaria is caused by plasmodium parasites transmitted through bites from infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Scientists have used CRISPR, a genome editing tool, to insert malaria-blocking genes into mosquitoes, making them resistant to infection. When these altered mosquitoes mate with wild ones, their offspring inherit the edited gene, which is replicated in the cell, resulting in malaria-resistant mosquitoes. Almost all tested offspring inherited the resistance gene.
