Landmarks - Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall, a symbol of the Cold War, divided East and West Berlin for nearly 30 years. Built in 1961, it was intended as an anti-fascism barrier but was seen as a means to prevent defections. The wall evolved into a heavily fortified structure with a death strip. Despite its oppressive nature, around 5000 people escaped, while 192 were killed. The wall fell in 1989 amid a wave of liberalism, leading to German reunification. Today, its legacy is debated, with some advocating for memorials to remember its history.
