The Sharif of Mecca led the revolt, but post-war agreements like the Sykes-Picot divided the region between the French and British. The Sharifian solution aimed to give Arab leaders control, but French and British mandates complicated matters. Despite Syrian resistance and attempts at independence, French control was established, leading to further revolts. Faisal, initially a Syrian leader, became King of Iraq, achieving independence in 1932.
