In 1807, Britain aimed to occupy Egypt and replace its ruler, Mohamed Ali, with their ally, Mohamed Bey Alfi. The British forces, led by Fraser, landed in Alexandria and advanced towards Rosetta. However, the Egyptians in Rosetta and Hamad fiercely resisted, forcing the British to retreat to Alexandria. Due to the strong resistance, Fraser sought a truce, agreeing to withdraw in exchange for the release of prisoners. Mohamed Ali entered Alexandria victorious, marking the failure of the British campaign.
