Scams Cost Senior Citizens More Than $1 Billion Over The Past Year

Attorney General William Barr announced that 400 individuals have been charged with elder fraud, primarily involving fraudulent robocalls from India. Barr emphasized the importance of combating elder fraud, citing personal experiences and the severe impact on victims, including the loss of life savings. The DOJ is also investigating nursing homes across nine states for mistreatment and neglect of elderly residents. Barr introduced the National Elder Fraud Hotline to aid in the fight against elder fraud and abuse.
