The Syrian regime continued its intense bombing of the rebel stronghold Ghouta Oriental for the sixth consecutive day, resulting in significant civilian casualties, including children. Despite international calls for a ceasefire, the Syrian government persisted with its attacks. The UN Security Council was expected to vote on a resolution for a 30-day ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid, amid negotiations to prevent a Russian veto. The aerial campaign is unusually intense and precedes a planned ground offensive to reclaim the region. Ghouta Oriental remains the last rebel bastion near Damascus, with rebels regularly firing on the capital.
